Games to Play With Your Cat While At Home

Playing games with your cat is not only a fun way to spend time together but also provides mental and physical stimulation, helping to keep your feline friend happy and healthy. Here are some games and activities that we suggest:

Chase the "Prey"

Using a toy to simulate the movement of prey is a great way to engage your cat's natural hunting instincts. You can use a wand toy with feathers or a toy on a string to mimic the movements of a bird or mouse. Drag the toy across the ground, making sudden stops and changes in direction to encourage your cat to stalk, pounce, and chase. This game helps to improve your cat's agility, coordination, and overall fitness.

Catnip Fun

Catnip is a natural herb that many cats find irresistible. Stuffing catnip into a toy or using a toy that already contains catnip can stimulate your cat's interest and provide hours of entertainment. Not all cats are affected by catnip, so observe your cat's reaction to determine if she enjoys it. You can also try other cat-friendly herbs, such as valerian root or silver vine, to see if they elicit a response.

Run and Fetch

Believe it or not, some cats enjoy playing fetch just like dogs do. Choose a small, lightweight toy that your cat can easily carry in her mouth, such as a soft ball or a small plush toy. Toss the toy a short distance and encourage your cat to retrieve it. Some cats may need a bit of training to understand the concept, but with patience and positive reinforcement, they can learn to bring the toy back to you for another round of play.

Play With Your Food

Mealtime can be turned into a fun and engaging activity for your cat. Puzzle feeders and food distributor balls are interactive toys that require your cat to work for her food. These toys have compartments or openings that release small amounts of food when your cat interacts with them. This not only stimulates her natural hunting instincts but also slows down her eating, promoting better digestion and reducing the risk of overeating. Just remember to adjust your cat's daily food allowance to account for the food she receives from the puzzle feeder.

Go For a Walk

While it may seem unconventional, many cats can be trained to walk on a leash and enjoy exploring the outdoors. Using a harness specifically designed for cats, introduce your cat to the concept of walking on a leash gradually. Start indoors or in a secure outdoor area, allowing your cat to get used to the sensation of wearing the harness. Once she is comfortable, you can venture outside together, providing a safe and controlled environment for her to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the world. Walking on a leash provides mental and physical stimulation for your cat and strengthens the bond between you.

We hope these games and activities inspire you to have even more fun with your cat while at home. Remember to always prioritise your cat's safety and well-being, and tailor the games to her individual preferences and abilities. Enjoy the special moments and the joy that playing with your cat brings to both of you.
